Ayurveda is almost a 500-year-old practice that helps in treating and managing many disorders and diseases. With the increasing rate of diabetes, these ayurvedic practices aids in managing blood sugar levels which in turn keeps diabetes in check.
- Gurmar in Hindi literally translates to ‘destroyer of sugar.’ Gurmar primarily is composed of gymnemic acid, which helps curb sugar cravings. Gurmar is said to have anti-diabetic properties. Gurmar can also block receptors in your intestines and stop sugar absorption, reducing after-meal blood sugar levels. The chemical structure of gurmar is similar to that of sugar and aids in balancing insulin levels in the body.
- Giloy is said to help manage type 2 diabetes. Giloy works like hypoglycemic agent, which produces insulin and helps lower blood sugar levels. Giloy aids in burning off excess glucose that further decreases high blood sugar levels. As per a study done by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), it (giloy) is said to have significant anti-diabetic activity.
- Methi has many health benefits, but one of the most important being that it helps in managing blood sugar levels. Fiber present in methi forms a thick-gel like layer in the intestine, making it difficult for absorption of sugar, hence managing high blood sugar levels. They are also beneficial in improving the way the body utilizes sugar.
